Central Oregon has long been considered one of the finest
regions in the world for trout and steelhead fishing. It all boils down to two
of the best driftboat rivers in the world being located here: the Deschutes and
the McKenzie. While each river is quite different from the other what they have
in common is world-class fly fishing opportunities on very scenic
waterways.
The lower 100 miles of the
Deschutes River is the most famous
blue ribbon wild trout and steelhead stream in the Pacific Northwest. From late
April through the fall you can float the river canyon fly fishing for native
redside rainbow trout that average 13" to 18" with fish to 21" not uncommon. In
late May through June you can enjoy the annual salmon fly hatch when the
redsides explode on the big salmon flies falling on the surface of the river
from the over hanging trees. Through out the summer and fall excellent nymph
and dry fly fishing is provided by the many hatches of caddis, mayflies and
midges. We offer 1 to 3 day trips on the Deschutes River fishing for these fine
wild redsides and steelhead as well.
The McKenzie has long been
regarded as a premier native and stocked trout river in the Pacific Northwest.
McKenzie river fishing trips from
four hours to three days long are available for both spin and fly fishing
enthusiasts. We drift down the river in our nimble McKenzie river drift boats,
seeking native and stocked trout and steelhead. The native trout trips focus on
fly fishing the pristine and secluded fishing holes found on the stretch of
river from the town of McKenzie Bridge to the town of Vida. Native rainbows
have long called these waters home and are typically plentiful for anglers to
catch and release. In addition, planted trout are also found in the McKenzie.
We also offer fly fishing, spinning and bait gear trips for steelhead below
Leaburg Dam. These trips are offered from May to November and are thought of as
among the best in Oregon for landing 5-12 pound steelheads.
