Northern Oregon Fishing

Oregon was the prized destination of the earliest westward settlers. Why? Because Lewis and Clark had travelled out here and wrote a pretty accurate travel guide about it. They spoke of lots of big fish, endless tracts of forests, glistening rivers, towering mountains, and, even back then, friendly people. The first wave of settlers found more of the same. The rest is history and has now been officially proclaimed as a great place to spend time outdoors. With more federally protected Wild and Scenic rivers than any other state in the nation, the second oldest National Park on earth, and a heritage of hearty outdoors people, we believe our neck of the woods is about as good as it gets for salmon, steelhead, and trout fishing and other outdoor recreation pursuits.

So, we put together a team of fishing outfitters that allow you to experience the best of Oregon's rivers for world-class drift boat fishing in the company of top-notch guides and instructors . Consider just the rivers and lakes of Northern Oregon (Check out the southern Oregon fishing section and the eastern and central Oregon fishing pages for information on those great fishing trips.):

The Sandy and Clackamas rivers are less than an hour from Portland, Oregon. Yet, once you are boating down these rivers you will feel a world away. Salmon, steelhead, and trout are always swimming one or the other or both and are generally prime for fishing and catching. The scenery and solitude of both of the Sandy and Clackamas is fantastic as well. And, speaking of Lewis and Clark, where the Sandy river spills into the Columbia (which is too big for drift boat fishing trips) the troop spent a night just days before reaching the Pacific Ocean. We can visit this spot on your trip. Odds are, after catching a healthy steelhead or salmon and drifting the Sandy or Clackamas river you will wonder why old William and Meriwether pulled up stakes.

As if that weren't enough, you have the option of fishing in one of Mt. Hood National Forest's many alpine lakes. Mt. Hood is the tallest mountain in Oregon and is known for its dramatic glacier-filled reach into the sky, belted below with a rich green alpine forest. In these forests sit these lakes, some with the powerful big mountain backdrop and all filled with trout. Here we offer both hike and drive in lake fly fishing that is among the most scenic in the world. Furthermore, we offer fly fishing lessons and instructions on these lakes. For those visiting or living in Portland or the are with even a little bit of time we recommend these fishing trips and classes.
