Chetco River Fishing

Fly Fishing on the Chetco RiverThe Chetco river spills from one of the most rugged wilderness areas in the U.S. before reaching the Pacific Ocean between the towns of Brookings and Harbor, Oregon, about five miles north of the Oregon-California border. After its initial steep descent the river mellows out near its mouth which allows for world-class salmon and steelhead fishing. Since the upper river exists in pure wilderness, year after year fish return to spawn in this natural setting. This generally means lots of fish to catch!

The Chetco is another one of Wilderness Fishing Trips' government protected rivers that we fish. Our drift boat trips on this Wild and Scenic river operate in the winter and early spring, with steelhead and sea run cutthroat trout swimming the river. We also offer on a charter trip basis fishing trips in the fall for Chinook salmon. In the winter, when other rivers may be too high to fish the Chetco is often prime, since it has a very small watershed. In fact, the entire river is officially only 55 miles long. But what a beautiful 55 miles it is. While the section we fish does have some development along the river, it is mixed with towering fir trees and rich riparian vegetation. We offer day and overnight trips on the Chetco. On our overnight trips we lodge at a magnificent vacation rental on the Oregon coast.
