Deschutes River Fishing

The lower 100 miles of the Deschutes River is the most famous blue ribbon wild trout and steelhead stream in the Pacific Northwest. Starting from snow and glacier melt high in the Cascades, the Deschutes reaches a high desert plateau that features good year round flows and sunny days. Here, dozens of miles above the mouth of the Columbia the river is loaded with steelhead and the famous Deschutes redside trout. We fish these waters travelling by drift boat through a roadless river canyon.

Fishing the Deschutes RiverStarting in late April you can float the river canyon fly fishing for native redside rainbow trout that average 13" to 18" with fish to 21" not uncommon. In late May through June you can enjoy the annual salmon fly hatch when the redsides explode on the big salmon flies falling on the surface of the river from the over hanging trees. Through out the summer and fall excellent nymph and dry fly fishing is provided by the many hatches of caddis, mayflies and midges.

The Deschutes River has special regulations in effect, All fishing is done while wading. Fishing from a boat is not allowed. We use drift boats for transportation down the river. They hold a lot of gear and give great access to all parts of the river. We offer 1 to 3 day trips on the Deschutes River fishing for these fine wild redsides and steelhead as well.
